The Kapunda Community Gallery opened a special exhibition on Friday night focussing on young people’s creativity.

Gallery Committee Member and Co-ordinator of Exhibits, Ms Alice Tilley said the “inaugural annual Young People’s Creative Industries exhibition showcases the talents of young artists aged from 12-24 from Kapunda and beyond.”

“The exhibition is complimented by art from Greenock Primary School and Kapunda Kindergarten students, as well as the winning youth entries at the recent Kapunda Show,” said Ms Tilley.

“We also have some works from students at Trinity College Gawler River Campus, and Kapunda High School.”

The opening of the exhibition was attended by many young artists, family and friends, members of the community gallery and Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo.

Mr Piccolo said the region had many young talented artists, so I congratulate the community gallery on this very special exhibition.

“It is clear that the artwork enables the young artists to express themselves in a way that words can’t,” said Mr Piccolo.

“The work by young Kapunda artist Aida Bryley titled, “White Noise” is an example. It portrays her experience of leaving Mawson Lakes and moving to the local town, having to start a new school and make new friends. It is a very emotional piece.”

“As a community we sometimes underestimate the power of art to help people, and in particular young people, to communicate.”

“The artwork of over 50 young artists is on display, and some of the young people have a real flair for it.  Hopefully, exhibitions like this will encourage some young people who have a passion for art to pursue it once they leave school.”

The gallery is open daily, and the exhibition will finish on the 1st December, 2024 with some of the works available for purchase.
