Residents across the Gawler region will now have easier access to free legal advice, with Northern Community Legal Service (NCLS) returning to the main street.
The service will be provided at the office of Tony Piccolo MP (148 Murray Street) from the 16th of April on Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm weekly, with Mr Piccolo encouraging the community to “take advantage of accessing legal advice and assistance without financial barriers.”
“Legal fees can be expensive, so why not seek free legal advice, understand your options and the pathway ahead if you wish to pursue legal action with your issue,” said Mr Piccolo.
“This service will provide vital support for our residents, helping them navigate challenges and empowering them with knowledge and support.
“This will complement our services at the Light Electorate Office as we’re always here to advocate on your behalf, follow up on our region’s issues and assist with any problems our residents are having.”
Coordinator of NCLS, Patsy Kellett, said, “For more than 30 years, NCLS has provided high-quality legal assistance to the people of South Australia’s northern suburbs, those most impacted by disadvantage.”
“We focus on promoting access to justice and ensuring that those most vulnerable to injustice receive the support they need to live full, happy and healthy lives,” said Ms Kellett.
While focussed on providing free legal assistance to disadvantaged individuals, anyone working or living in the northern suburbs of Adelaide is eligible for a free legal advice appointment.
Eligibility for ongoing support, which remains free, is assessed based on the client’s individual needs and circumstances.
NCLS also runs legal education projects aimed at strengthening communities through preventative education and empowering individuals to understand their rights and navigate the legal system effectively.
“We’ve observed increasing levels of housing stress, financial hardship and social challenges in the region, which only heighten the need for accessible legal services,” said Ms Kellett.
“Our outreach program ensures that residents of Gawler and surrounding areas have equitable access to advice, representation and community support.”
