The remarkable achievements of two women entrepreneurs who are setting new standards in the hospitality industry in Clare Valley have been applauded in State Parliament.
Member of Parliament Tony Piccolo MP celebrated the innovative contributions of both the founder of Bukirk Glamping & Luxury Cabins, Alison Meaney, and co-founder of Clare Valley Distillery, Katherine Nugent.
Bukirk Glamping, which started with two glamping tents in 2018, has since expanded to include luxury cabins and an accessible ‘Fancy Coop’ known as Cluckingham Palace.
Mr Piccolo, who attended Bukirk's 7th Anniversary Open Day, heard first-hand about Alison’s journey in transforming a run-down vineyard into a luxurious and unique accommodation experience.
“Alison's dedication and vision have truly redefined glamping in our region,” said Mr Piccolo.
“Inspired by her love for the outdoors and extensive travel experiences, she created a unique accommodation that blends rustic charm with modern amenities.
“Bukirk is a beloved destination attracting visitors seeking a unique escape and has brought another element of adventure and charm to the Clare Valley.”
Meanwhile, Katherine Nugent, along with her co-founders Di Mayfield and Guy Parkinson, has brought locally crafted gin to the renowned wine region with Clare Valley Distillery.
Starting with contract distilling in 2019, Clare Valley Distillery has overcome numerous challenges, including the pandemic, to launch their own distillery and cellar door.
The distillery’s official opening was held on Sunday and while Mr Piccolo attended, he managed to get a behind-the-scenes tour of the venue from Ms Nugent last month.
“Katherine and her team have identified a gap in the Clare Valley market and have introduced a refreshing twist to Clare Valley's hospitality scene,” said Mr Piccolo.
“Their passion for gin and dedication to using local botanicals have created an exceptional product that celebrates the essence of our region.”
“But with Di skills in photography and marketing, and chef Parkinson’s talents in the kitchen, they’ve created what will be a sought-after experience that complements the renowned wine region.”
Mr Piccolo finished his speech in Parliament with, “these women are not just entrepreneurs; they are pioneers, inspiring us all with their determination and ingenuity.”
