Hundreds of residents and their four-legged friends were treated to a ‘fur-tastic’ free family fun day to open the Tails and Trails dog park in Two Wells yesterday.
The park is the latest milestone in the $1.2 billion housing development in the region by Land Australia, part of the Hickinbotham Group.
Land Australia and official park partner, the RSPCA, celebrated the occasion by organising local businesses and service groups to offer a range of freebies including sausage sizzle, ice-cream, coffees, face painting along with plenty of activities and treats for the whole family.
Member of Parliament, Tony Piccolo, attended the event and said the turnout was evidence of the value these public spaces bring to a community.
“Seeing the joy on the faces of residents and their pets today is a reminder of why we work so hard to support projects that enhance quality of life in our region,” said Mr Piccolo.
“Community spaces like Tails and Trails remind us that progress isn’t just about infrastructure; it’s about building relationships and fostering a sense of belonging for every resident.”
Located across from the Jefferson Boulevard and Friedman Grove T-Junction of the new Liberty estate, the 4500sqm, fully-fenced park offers separate areas for the smaller and larger breeds.
Features include interactive obstacles, shelters, seating and drinking fountains, a pedestrian bridge linking to the carpark on Jefferson Boulevard and landscaping, including tree planting on the surrounding reserve.
Deputy Premier, the Hon. Susan Close, was on hand for the official ribbon cutting ceremony, and is pleased more than 3000 new homes for South Australian families are set to be created in the Liberty and Eden estates.
“When I was asked to come and do this, they had me at ‘dog park’ because I just adore these creatures,” said the Deputy Premier.
“The Government has been very strong in saying we want to open more and more places to have more housing developments, but they’ve got to work.
“They’ve got to be about community and the people, not just for rooms.
“This is not just about a number of houses, this is about a number of homes in the middle of a community and that’s what makes a difference – to have a dog park is just icing on the cake.”
With the growth of the region, Adelaide Plains Mayor Mark Wasley said he’s “very proud to be involved in the foundation work and behind the scenes work to get things up and running.”
“It’s just a wonderful feeling for me as Mayor that we’re going through such a big change in our area, but it’s a very positive change…there are opportunities here now everywhere I look,” said Mayor Wasley.
“I'm so proud to be the Mayor of these exciting times because I think what we are doing now in our region is setting the foundations for the future, and what we'll see here in the next 10 to 20 years, it's going to be amazing.”
Hickinbotham Group Managing Director, Michael Hickinbotham, said, “We are thrilled to bring to life our vision for Tails and Trails.”
“This is more than just a dog park, it is a space that fosters relationships, strengthens our community, and creates opportunities for meaningful connections – both between people and with our four-legged friends,” said Mr Hickinbotham.
Since we first broke ground on the Liberty and Eden estates, this community has flourished.
The new school, playground, retail precinct, and now-famous bakery on Main Street are all signs of a thriving, family-focused township.
Over the past five years, Two Wells has grown by almost 30%, and we are committed to creating spaces that make this community not just liveable but truly enjoyable.”
