IN A bid to ensure the proposed Veteran’s and Families Hub in the Northern suburbs is best equipped to support our military community and their loved ones, a callout to veteran services has been issued.
Lives Lived Well Clinical Services Manager Erika Nel, whose organisation has been contracted by the Commonwealth Government to set up and operate the hub, presented at the Northern Adelaide Plains Veteran’s Forum on Thursday.
Ms Nel outlined the proposed Hub service model and is actively seeking feedback and advice on how other services and organisations in the region can work alongside the Hub for the benefit of veterans and their families.
Member for Light, Tony Piccolo MP, organises the Forums to gather key veteran services and organisations to understand key issues and the resources available to those who have served.
Mr Piccolo believes key input now will help shape the future of veteran support.
“The recent Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide found that 1,677 current and former defence personnel died from suicide between 1985 and 2021 – that’s 20 times the number of people who died in active service,” Mr Piccolo said.
“It's obvious successive governments have let our veterans down, and we need to do something now to buck that trend.
“We know there are plenty of services and resources out there trying to do the right thing for veterans and their families, but this is about everyone coming together to share resources, information and work together to help make finding support easier for everyone involved.”
