Two Clare Valley community groups received a visit from Minister for Seniors and Ageing Well, and Human Services Nat Cook and were mentioned in State Parliament recently for their outstanding contributions to local wellbeing.
The Clare Agriculture and Horticulture Society received $9692 through the 2023–24 Grants SA Social Impact Round 2 program to install an air-conditioner and room furnishings for the sensory and calm room at the Clare Showgrounds.
Member of Parliament Tony Piccolo joined Minister Cook in meeting with members of the society and was pleased with the feedback amongst the community.
“They spoke passionately about the about the positive impact this project has had on the local community,” said Mr Piccolo.
“This initiative has created a safe and comforting space for individuals who may feel overwhelmed during events, significantly improving accessibility and inclusivity.”
Similarly, the Mintaro Progress Association was awarded $4,000 for their Mintaro Seniors: a Connected Community project as part of the State Government Office for Ageing Well's 2023-24 Grants for Seniors program.
The Association used the grant to deliver a series of targeted workshops and seminars, focusing on topics like nutrition, physical and mental wellbeing and community resilience.
Mr Piccolo was pleased to hear the Association talk about how the workshops brought older people together.
“It encourages our elder community to stay connected, understand available services and develop skills to contribute to their community,” said Mr Piccolo.
“The Mintaro Progress Association, formed in 1935, has a long history of supporting and developing the district's cultural facilities.
“Their efforts continue to strengthen community bonds and promote engagement.”
Mr Piccolo commended both community groups for their efforts in State Parliament.
“The impact of these projects is already being felt, demonstrating the power of community-driven initiatives in fostering a more inclusive environment for all,” said Mr Piccolo.
“Both these community organisations, amongst many others, make a huge difference to the wellbeing and prosperity of our communities.”
