The Gawler Veteran, Vintage and Classic Vehicle Club (GVVCVC) has secured $102,500 in funding through the State Government’s Car Club Grants 2024 to help make their dreams of a new facility a reality.
The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Hon Ton Koutsantonis, made the announcement today, with local Member for Light, Tony Piccolo MP, delivering the exciting news to the club.
“It’s pleasing the hard work that we’ve put into this grant application and the ABC Hub has paid off for not just car enthusiasts, but the community at large and the fellow clubs sharing the space,” Mr Piccolo said.
“The investment into this modernised facility reflects our commitment to fostering a vibrant community spirit and supporting the passions that drive our region forward.”
The news comes just weeks after confirmation the Club will be sharing a lease with fellow not-for-profits Gawler Apex Club and Black Ops – Veterans Garage on State Emergency Service (SES) land; next to the new soon to be built Gawler SES Unit on Two Wells Road, Willaston.
The shared space will be known as the ABC Hub, and GVVCVC President Gavin Frost said he’s thankful for the funding that will help deliver the club its first home in their 40-year history.
“The new Gawler Car Club facility will provide our members with a meeting place, workshop, a library and space to read, research and historical archiving, a kitchenette to allow for safe storage and consumption of food and drinks whilst working and small-scale catering for visitors,” Mr Frost said.
“This allows all our members the benefits of meeting, learning, sharing and working together on the maintenance and restoration of classic and historic vehicles.
“This ABC Hub will also provide our three clubs the opportunity to develop a shared space, a place for reflection and fellowship…and improve social interactions within the community and wider areas.”
Mr Piccolo said that by working together the three clubs have been able to achieve a better outcome than had they worked alone.
“A great result for the community,” Mr Piccolo said.
