Gawler Primary School is piecing together the FIRST LEGO League Regional Tournament next Saturday, 2 November 2024.
The FIRST LEGO League Challenge, an international competition organised by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) in partnership with the LEGO company, brings together youth teams to tackle real-world challenges through science and robotics.
This eagerly anticipated event will showcase the incredible talent and creativity of young engineers from across the region.
Gawler Primary School has been actively competing in this prestigious competition since 2019, winning the Inspiration Award (2019), Engineering Excellence Award (2020) and Motivate Award (2023).
Member for Light, Tony Piccolo MP, believes this is an incredible opportunity for students to engage in hands-on learning and showcase their problem-solving skills.
“Visiting the school earlier this week, it’s fantastic to see the enthusiasm already on display and the work they have put into their creations,” said Mr Piccolo.
“These types of events highlight the importance of STEM education in preparing our future innovators and are a chance for these young minds to showcase their creativeness.
"Hosting the FIRST LEGO League Regional Tournament is a proud moment for Gawler Primary School.”
The tournament will feature nine teams, including Gawler Primary's own Code Blue 1 and Code Blue 2, competing in various robotics challenges.
The students will design, build, and program their LEGO Spike Prime robots to complete tasks related to the competition's annual theme.
In addition to the robotics competition, the event will include presentations on innovative solutions to real-world problems.
The event is open to the public, offering a fantastic opportunity for families and community members to support the students and learn more about the program.
There are competitions available for children from ages 4 to 18, with more information available at www.firstaustralia.org
