More than 60 people, along with numerous walk-ins, were all aboard the 'Try Before You Ride' event at the Gawler Railway Station today.

The initiative between Feros Care and Keolis Downer Adelaide aims to familiarise community members with the public transport system, ensuring a smoother and more confident travel experience for all.

Member for Light, Tony Piccolo MP, attended the opening ceremony and expressed his enthusiasm for the effort to ensure an all-inclusive experience.

“It’s great to see staff take the time to walk everyone through all the aspects of public transport,” said Mr Piccolo.

“It gives those who are unsure about catching public transport the chance to get a feel for the environment and understand not only the processes for passengers, but also how public transport operates.”

Participants had the chance to explore various aspects of the railway system, including ticketing, boarding procedures, and accessibility features.

The hands-on experience provided valuable insights and practical knowledge while staff were on hand to answer questions and provide guidance, making future journeys more seamless.

"Public transport is a vital part of our community, and it's essential that everyone feels confident and capable of using it,” said Mr Piccolo.

“Today's event has been a great success in achieving that goal as I’ve heard positive feedback from participants, and I even learnt a thing or two in the short time I was there.

“We're committed to making public transport accessible and user-friendly for all residents, and I look forward to seeing more events like this in the future, as we continue to support and improve our public transport system."
