People living in the state electorate of Frome will now have an additional and alternative voice to the State Parliament and Government with the appointment of the Member for Light, Mr Tony Piccolo, to the position of “Labor Duty Member” for the district.
Mr Piccolo said that his role as duty member was broad and flexible and includes (but not limited to) the following key responsibilities:
1. Providing the people of Frome with an additional and alternative voice and advocate on their behalf in State Parliament and to the State Government
2. Identify and work alongside supporters of the ALP in the electorate.
3. Work with the members of the Frome ALP Sub-Branch and support them wherever he can.
4. Undertake such activities to advance the State Labor Government’s prosperity goals in Frome.
“I am looking forward to working with the Frome community whether this be individuals such as small business owners, farmers or grape growers, blue-collar workers or tradies, carers or support workers, or organisations such as a community or sporting organisations, schools or education and training providers or local councils,” said Mr Piccolo.
“While I’m keen to support rank and file Labor and union members, people’s personal politics should not and is not a barrier to me serving them.”
“If you live, work, study or play in the Frome electorate, I am more than happy to listen and support you in any way I can.”
Mr Piccolo said that he was previously the Labor Duty Member for Schubert but with an increasing amount of his electorate of Light falling into Frome, it made sense for him to be appointed to the Frome district and continue my service to those communities.
“As you can appreciate, some people have been dealing with my office for many years and may wish to continue to do so. Many issues are of a regional nature and don’t stop at the electorate boundaries.” said Mr Piccolo.
The Light electorate previously included the townships and areas of Freeling, Roseworthy, Wasleys, Kingsford, Woolsheds, Pinkerton Plains, Reeves Plains, Magdala, Linwood, Morn Hill, parts of Hamley Bridge, with the independent Electoral Districts Boundaries Commission recently suggesting that Gawler Belt, Gawler River, Ward Belt, Buchfelde and Hewett be included in Frome at the next election due in March 2026.
