A community forum will be held this Sunday afternoon, 23rd November at the Dublin Cricket Club to discuss the proposed code amendment to create an employment zone just outside the township.

The forum has been arranged by Member of Parliament, Mr Tony Piccolo in response to residents living in Dublin and Thompson Beach area who have reached out to him for advice.

Mr Piccolo said that the proposed “Dublin Green Circular Economy Precinct” was a worthwhile idea, but some residents in the area are finding it difficult to reconcile the concept with the publicised employment zone.

“The apparent lack of clarity about the proposal is raising some concerns,” said Mr Piccolo.

“Code amendments are a very powerful processes that can lead to significant zoning changes, so we need to ensure that residents understand both the process and what is been proposed.”

“Sadly, the greater Dublin area has been subjected to some very controversial waste management decisions in the past, so there is some scepticism about what has been proposed.”

While current process only considers the rezoning of some farmland to an “employment zone”, the residents would like to gain a better understanding of how the mining and the mooted residential areas fit in to create the so-called “green circular economy precinct”.

Mr Piccolo said that both the proponents of the rezoning and the local Adelaide Plains Council will be invited to attend the community forum, to ensure all parties are making decisions based on the same information.

“Residents and local Councils play an important role in the code amendment process, so it is critical that they are making decisions based on the same facts,” said Mr Piccolo.

“While the Minister for Planning is the final decision maker, advice from the South Australian Planning Commission and the community engagement report play a key role in the process.”

The community forum will be held at 2pm and all interested parties are welcome to attend.

Mr Piccolo said any enquires regarding the community forum can be directed to his office on 8522 2878 or via email at light@parliament.sa.gov.au
