The Business Gawler 2024 Arts on the Plains Festival has officially launched across the greater Gawler region on Sunday.
The Minister for Arts, Andrea Michaels MP, joined artists, sponsors and the public to open the event at the Gawler Civic Centre.
Minister Michaels said the festival has become an important fixture in the community’s events calendar following last year’s inaugural event.
“Arts festivals give artists of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels the platform to engage, share and connect their practice with their community,” said Minister Michaels.
“Coinciding as it does with the South Australian Living Artists Festival – SALA – this festival shows first-hand how creativity and artistic endeavour enriches a region.
“The contribution of regional artists to the fabric of our society cannot be overstated.
“This event is an opportunity to play a key part in the artistic process by investing in artists and supporting them to flourish.”
More than 50 people were in attendance as artists shared their works and passions, Uncle Moogy welcomed everyone to country and local musician Abbey Dale performed.
Member for Light, Tony Piccolo MP, joined the Minister in cutting a cake - created by Sandi’s Creative Cakes - to mark the occasion and said he was pleased with the support the community has provided.
“This event cannot come together without many hands – from the businesses who have offered to showcase artists’ works and the talented artists in our region putting their hands up to exhibit their work to the sponsors and volunteers who offer their time and resources required to operate – thank you,” said Mr Piccolo.
“We have more than 20 different activities and exhibitions on offer across the whole month, giving our locals plenty of time to check them all out and show their support to the creativeness of our region.
“I want to thank everyone involved and encourage everyone – even those who may not think art is their thing – to visit an exhibition or two as you may be surprised as to what inspires and captivates you.”
