Local farmers are welcoming the additional $55 million drought relief package the Malinauskas Labor State Government announced on Tuesday.

The expanded $73 million drought relief package includes an array of measures, including:

• $13 million for On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Grants to strengthen preparedness.

• $4 million for fodder freight costs, assisting farmers in feeding their livestock.

• Emergency Services Levy and registration fee rebates for those receiving Farm Household Allowance.

• $2.5 million for mental health and resilience strategies to support drought-affected areas.

• $3.1 million for pest and kangaroo population management, reducing environmental pressure on farmland.

• $1.4 million for regional standpipe upgrades, enhancing access to critical water.

• $2 million for sport and recreation clubs in drought-affected areas to maintain vital community connections.

Tony Piccolo MP was pleased to see support in place for not only the farmers, but the communities in place who support them.

“While no funding package can fully alleviate all of the challenges of drought, this assistance provides vital support to farmers who are doing it tough, helping them navigate these difficult times,” Mr. Piccolo said.

“Farmers are the backbone of our regional communities, and this drought relief package recognises the interdependence between primary producers and the towns that serve them.”

“This funding supports not just farmers but extends to councils, community groups and small businesses, ensuring the entire ecosystem of regional communities can weather the impacts of drought together.”

Mr Piccolo said his discussions with farmers have revolved around two key issues - mental health and the lengthy application processes – and is glad the State Government is addressing these key concerns.

The commitment includes a speeding up the in-farm drought infrastructure grants by processing applications within 30 days.
