While the Reid Reserve Playground was officially opened on Saturday, the area has already become a hub of community connection and engagement for local residing families.

The nature playground has been enjoyed by children since last month and features including a flying fox, slides, swings (including a net swing), vegetation, new paths, a shaded picnic area and a half-basketball court.

This project follows residents calling for some social infrastructure over several years, with the Malinauskas Labor Government making a $600,000 election promise for the construction of this nature playground.

Member for Light, Tony Piccolo MP, attended the official opening and is pleased the State Government has helped in providing the secluded community with an inclusive space for all families.

“While Reid may be tucked away in the outskirts of the Gawler region, they are part of our community,” said Mr Piccolo.

“When I door-knocked the community, this playground was their number one priority and the feedback from our residents has been invaluable in shaping the final design, ensuring it meets the needs and desires of our community.

“We’re committed to enhancing community spaces and providing our children with safe and enjoyable places to play, and I thank both Climbing Tree and Town of Gawler for designing and delivering the project.

“It’s been great to see families and children enjoying this wonderful new space, and I hope many continue to take advantage of the space to follow the trails, gather for social outings and, of course, make childhood memories.”

As part of the opening event, attending families were treated to free slushies and ice cream, and Town of Gawler Mayor Karen Redman joined in on the celebration.

“We celebrate the completion of this amazing playground which was made possible following an election commitment made by the State Government during the 2022 State Elections,” said Mayor Redman.

“Thanks to their generous grant of $600,000, we now have this incredible space for families and children to enjoy.

“Of course, we couldn’t have done this without the brilliant work of Climbing Tree Creations, who designed and brought this playground to life.

“What a fantastic addition to Reid Reserve!

“I’m sure the local residents are absolutely thrilled to finally see this dream become a reality.”
