Brendan’s and Gusto’s Barber Shops are joining Tony to promote “Movember”
Local Member of Parliament, Tony Piccolo has rebadged himself for the month of November as the Mo-member for Light.
Mr Piccolo has a long history of raising awareness around men’s health issues in the local community.
Mr Piccolo believes that too many men are dying too young from illnesses that could be treated successfully if identified early.
“We need people in the community to talk about men’s health, take action and raise funds, or nothing will change,” Mr Piccolo said.
“We need to remember men are valued and loved sons, fathers, husbands and brothers.“By improving the health of men we are supporting families and the community.
“This is why I am joining forces with local barbers Brendan’s and Gusto’s to promote Movember,”
“I have created the ‘Mo-member for Light’ team through the Movember website and am asking that residents in Light join with me in raising funds to go towards men’s health initiatives,” he said.
During November Mr Piccolo will be signing all correspondence as the “ Mo-member for Light” and all documents prepared during the month will carry the “Movember” logo.
Men experience poorer longer-term health than women and on average die six years earlier.
Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50 years.
Three quarters of suicides are men.
Mr Piccolo said that people can simply join the Momember for Light team by searching for the team name when they register at https://au.movember.com/.
“I have arranged for some prizes to be awarded for ‘Momember for Light’ team members who raise the most money and have the best and worst mos,” he said.
