The Kiwanis Club of Gawler celebrated their 28th annual handover at a dinner with members and supporters on Tuesday 20 September at the Nixon’s Function Centre.

Past Governor Geoff Holmes was MC for the evening with members from the Barossa Kiwanis Club and local service clubs in attendance. Guest Speaker for the evening was Sgt Ian Skewes who entertained everyone with a quiz on road safety.

For the past 28 years, members have visited the nursing homes and hospital on Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day, handing out cards and gifts to help cheer up the patients. Apart from the many community service and fundraising activities, Kiwanis Gawler also run the Terrific Kids program and have 10 local schools participating.

The program promotes positive behaviour and each year, students are presented with books and a certificate. Local Member of Parliament Tony Piccolo was recognised with a Certificate of Appreciation for his ongoing support of the Terrific Kids program, along with Nick Champion MP, Jim Murray of LJ Hooker Gawler, The Giannitto Family and the Gawler CWA.

Over the last year, Ian and Marilyn Curtis became sponsors. Members were recognised on the night for their long service to the club and the new committee were announced. Congratulations to Monica Scholz who was returned as President.

Special thanks to Margaret Hague who is stepping down as Treasurer with George Harris taking on that role again.
