The Gawler Arts Trail has officially been launched, with 20 unique and inspiring local artworks to uncover throughout the town.

The trail is approximately 10 kilometres spanning from near the Gawler Central Railway line to the Main North Road/Gawler Bypass, taking roughly 45 minutes by car or a two-hour walk.

The trail includes murals, mosaics, artworks, memorials, historic interpretations and structures.

Member for Light, Tony Piccolo MP, is pleased Town of Gawler have decided to announce the trail during the Business Gawler 2024 Arts on the Plains Festival launch.

“Considering the festival is a celebration of our region’s creative talents, the trail adds another element to draw visitors to Gawler and take in the works of our artists whenever they please in our town,” said Mr Piccolo.

“Artists put a lot of work into their pieces and we should be presenting as many opportunities as we can to encourage them to share their passions with the public and show everyone we are a vibrant community.

“The colours, textures and stories that are shared only add to what Gawler has to offer and provides families and people of all ages a sensory adventure.”

The idea of the trail was pitched during an Arts on the Plains meeting by Di Fraser, who proposed locations and walked the trail to map out the directions before working with Town of Gawler to turn her project into a reality.

Gawler Mayor Karen Redman thanked Ms Fraser for her efforts, and is hoping the trail will only grow in future years.

“As new and exciting art pieces are added to our town, the brochure will be updated, making it a living document that continues to reflect the evolving landscape of Gawler’s artistic expression,” said Mayor Redman.

“By including a QR code linked to our Arts and Culture page, we’ve made it easier than ever for everyone to stay informed about the latest additions and events.

Mayor Redman also highlighted a number of the art pieces featured including the Centenary Lane Mural by Kyle Armstrong and Sarah Boese’s At Paridla Taikunthi.

The festival was launched on Sunday, 11 August and finishes on Sunday, 8 September, with more than 20 different exhibitions and events on offer throughout this period.

The Gawler Arts Trail map, along with many other tours, trails and activities across the town, is available to collect at the Gawler Visitor Information Centre.
