Not many people can brag about being hosted in Parliament House on their 21st birthday, but the Gawler VIEW Club can.

Member for Light, Tony Piccolo MP, treated delighted club members to a tour of Parliament and a three-course lunch in the Speakers Dining Room to celebrate the club’s milestone.

VIEW stands for the Voice, Interests and Education of Women, with close to 300 VIEW Clubs around Australia open to women of all ages. These women meet monthly, establish lasting friendships and help disadvantaged Australian children through supporting the work of children’s charity, The Smith Family.

Mr Piccolo attended their inaugural meeting back in 2003 at the Kingsford Hotel in his previous role as Mayor of Gawler and felt it fitting to join in on their celebrations.

“These volunteers have given so much to young people over all these years by opening up opportunities for education, so it’s an honour to celebrate that in some way and give a little back to them for their efforts,” said Mr Piccolo.

“I’ve known and worked with many of these members for a number of years, and it was great to catch-up, hear what they’ve been up to, listen to ideas they have for the region and also let them have a little fun.”

Inaugural Gawler VIEW Club member said, “it was certainly a day that we will remember for some time.”

“Members who had previously been said they had learned a lot more about Parliament House on the tour and…everyone was very happy with the meal,” said Ms Kakoschke.

“I had never been and was always hoping that one day I would get there.”

As not all members were able to attend, the Gawler VIEW Club will also be hosting a lunch celebration locally at The Southern Hotel on Monday, 23rd September with other SA VIEW Clubs and past and present Executives set to attend.
